Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. In 1909 Sweden became the first country in Europe to establish national parks, opening nine in a single year.

Sweden covers 450,295 square kilometers, bordering Finland and Norway, its largest neighbor. Gotland is Sweden's largest island and the largest island lying entirely within the Baltic Sea.

The Vasa, a Swedish warship that sank on its maiden voyage in 1628 and was raised in 1961, remains the best-preserved seventeenth-century ship in the world.
